Feedback on Rutherford House School from Councillor Mrs Dunn on behalf of the Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services to her colleagues during the schools opening year:

"The school has made an excellent start. The Head teacher took up her post in July and appointed a SEN co-ordinator/senior teacher, class teachers and support staff in good time for them to meet over the summer holidays to plan for the school’s opening. The enthusiasm among the staff was palpable to visitors! The building works have proceeded apace, with one floor of the former Balham Youth Court fully refurbished with the necessary classrooms and a spare, enabling the school to open on the date planned. Exterior works are being completed in the large playground, which will allay the slight concern of a small number of parents. I’m also very pleased to report that the school has engaged very actively with the Council, for example, participating in governor training events and collaborating closely with officers over admissions. The school is full and is looking forward to its next cohort.

[As mentioned in a previous answer], this really does underline our ambition to do everything possible to provide more educational choice for parents. We will continue to encourage proposals for free schools and academies, ensuring that they properly vetted before receiving support. Rutherford House is an example of another first-class school for the community."
